Policies
Below sets out some of the policies I would like to implement over the next four years and it is also a means by which you can judge whether I have delivered on these commitments. At the forthcoming mayoral election, I ask for your help to bring about change for Bedford. Please see my manifesto for more detailed information.
COUNCIL TAX
Keeping council tax as low as possible, cutting out waste, duplication and inefficiency and delivering true value for money for the council tax already paid by residents. Our rural villages often feel they are the poor relations to the urban neighbourhoods. I will work to ensure that funding is distributed fairly across urban and rural areas.
CRIME AND ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Working for a safer Bedford - developing an equal partnership with the Police in preventing and tackling crime whilst taking tough action on those who commit anti-social behaviour on our streets.
CARE AND HEALTH
Providing the highest quality care to the most vulnerable residents in our community whilst enabling them to live full and independent lives.
ROADS AND TRANSPORT
Pursuing a sensible transport policy to deliver a transport system that keeps the town moving and truly reflects how we all move around our town and neighbouring villages.
ENVIRONMENT
Delivering major improvements to our local environment – cleaner streets, better rubbish collection, new street lighting, tackling fly tipping and graffiti.
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Developing new opportunities for children and young people and broadening their choices to give them the very best start in life. I would put a halt to the borough’s expensive school reorganisation programme and invest more to improve the educational attainment of all our children.
